Degas's painting 'Miss La La at the Cirque Fernando' is the star of this exhibition, which reveals new insights about the artwork and its subject.

This striking Impressionist piece captures an extraordinary moment, featuring the incredible circus performer Miss La La, also known as Anna Albertine Olga Brown (1858‒1945). In 1879, Degas painted this talented aerialist performing one of her most daring acts—suspended high above the ground, hanging by a rope held in her teeth by a leather mouthpiece.

The exhibition showcases new material, including rare, previously unseen drawings by Degas and unpublished photographic portraits of Miss La La. These discoveries shed fresh light on both the painting and the remarkable woman it depicts, telling their story for the first time at the Gallery.

"Discover Degas & Miss La La" is part of the National Gallery's 'Discover' series, which highlights lesser-known masterpieces. Previous exhibitions in this series include "Discover Manet & Eva Gonzalès" and "Discover Liotard & The Lavergne Family Breakfast."

Don't miss this opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of Degas and the extraordinary Miss La La for free.
