Location

Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly, London, UK

In the heart of London, the festive season arguably kicks-off when London’s most luxurious department store reveals their iconic Christmas display.

For those who are lucky enough to be able to safely visit, the entrancing window displays at Fortnum & Mason show a sequence of eight installations of Christmases past. From 1930, 1934, 1936, 1957, 1962, 2008, 2015 and an all-new 2020 feature.

With 313 past Christmases to choose from, a momentous task was set to select just a handful from the festive archives. But this year at the flagship Piccadilly store, each window evokes nostalgia as we celebrate a Christmas like no other. Showcasing hours of meticulous craftsmanship using hand sculpting, painting, lighting and bespoke engineering – each window features the original brochure cover alongside a larger-than-life, sparkling, dancing recreation.

Plus, the famous façade has been transformed into one gigantic advent calendar. Come December, they’ll be celebrating the countdown to Christmas on a grander scale than ever before. And if nothing else, you’ll be able to use the store façade to tell both the time, thanks to their merry clock, retuned to play a collection of festive melodies on the hour, and the date, giving you no excuses to leave your Christmas shopping to the last minute.

Along Duke Street, meanwhile, the windows celebrate Fortnum’s seasonal feastings, packed with every delicious thing needed for the big day, starting with Christmas morning breakfast delights through to show-stopper puddings and pies, right up to after dinner tipples.

Be sure to check it out if you're passing by and pop-in to the food hall which remains open throughout lockdown.

The 2020 Fortnum's Food Shop is bigger than ever, offering all joy-giving things for the festive season. Fill your little one’s stockings with treats like the Musical Merry-Go-Round Biscuit tin and listen to the jolly hum of ‘Jingle Bells’ as you enjoy its buttery, baked contents. Or, top-up your cupboards with wines, traditional mince pies and festive preserves filled with fruit and flavour.

What’s more, explore the online shop for curated gifts for the ladies and gentlemen in your life. From the luxurious softness of a cashmere slipper to exclusive perfumes, or luxury leather wallets to smart cufflinks and socks, there’s a great gift for everyone to look forward to giving this Christmas.
