Amelia Kosminsky Summer 2023

Art After Dark

Summer Edition 2023

Amelia Kosminsky is an international artist focusing on light sculpture, video art and photography. Her practice slows life down to offer time to see the beauty around us. Her practice is influenced by her own experience with hidden disabilities including epilepsy and mental health challenges. Having photosensitive epilepsy has resulted in a fascination with light. All these conditions feed into her work.

Amelia has been a mental health campaigner since her teenage years and likes to highlight these issues by placing her work in very public surroundings. Amelia’s work is predominately peaceful, contemplative and quiet, using light as a medium to produce striking images that contrast with the harshness of urban living. Life can be stressful for all of us and she likes to give people a moment to be able to take time and observe something beautiful centered around this subtly challenging issue.

Amelia Kosminsky headlined Art After Dark on 29-30 June, transforming Piccadilly Circus into a beautiful and tranquil space.

Visual artist Amelia Kosminsky captivated audiences with her video artwork, 'Sparks of Nature', displayed on the iconic Piccadilly Lights. Featuring soft lilac, orange, and yellow hues, the piece offered a calming moment for visitors in one of London’s busiest locations.

Renowned florist Philip Corps (Bridgerton) created an impressive floral display around the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, using over 6,000 flowers and plants. The installation included an illuminated terrarium, providing a striking backdrop for visitors to enjoy.

The event also saw over 40 West End galleries opening late, inviting visitors to explore the area’s world-class art offerings and discover more of London’s vibrant cultural scene.

In a sustainable touch, the floral arrangements were donated to the charity Thrive, ensuring the display continued to bring joy to local communities even after the event had ended.

Art After Dark once again showcased the West End as a hub for art and creativity, offering a unique cultural experience for all who attended.
