Claire Luxton Autumn 2023
Art After Dark
Autumn Edition 2023
Claire Luxton is a British contemporary multi-disciplinary artist represented by MTArt Agency, working with photography, immersive installation and poetry. She works from her rural studio based in East Sussex, and the nature she is surrounded by is always reflective in her work.
Inspired by art history’s masterpieces, Luxton explores the place of humans in nature and the specificity of the female experience in society, including prejudices built around the opposition of beauty and intellect or mental health. Luxton’s themes are beauty and life, decay and death, melancholy, and romanticism.
Claire Luxton headlined Art After Dark alongside Robert Montgomery from 12-13 October 2023.
The West End saw a striking public art display in Leicester Square Gardens.
The centrepiece of the event was 'The Cornucopia', a bold 7-metre-tall inflatable sculpture by British contemporary MTArt artist Claire Luxton. Painted in playful shades of purple, green, pink, and orange, and illuminated by LED lighting, the installation symbolised growth, beauty, and the vibrant energy of the West End.
Complementing Luxton’s work was ‘The People You Love’, an illuminated poetic installation by MTArt artist Robert Montgomery. Blending art and design, the piece expressed themes of love and sorrow, resonating deeply with audiences in a time of reflection and loss.
In Piccadilly Circus, a special digital display on the Piccadilly Lights took inspiration from iconic performance artist Marina Abramović and her major solo exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts. The display featured images from Abramović’s ‘Four Crosses’ (2019) installation alongside instructional statements from the Marina Abramović Method, encouraging viewers to reflect on life’s challenges and explore heightened states of consciousness.
