Brighter Future - Location 5: St Martin's Lane

The Location

St. Martin’s Lane is a vibrant street that runs from the church of St Martin-in-the-Fields, after which it is named, near Trafalgar Square northwards to Long Acre. It is a creative hub, home to the English National Opera’s London Coliseum, Noel Coward Theatre and Duke of York’s Theatre, as well as a number of quality hotels and bars.

The Opportunity

Eye bolts are in the process of being installed on at least twelve buildings down the street, from the Duke of York Theatre to Pret-a-Manger. This provides an exciting opportunity to be one of the first to display art prominently above the busy street. This could take the form of canvases, lighting, lanterns or lightweight sculpts. All pieces will be subject to weight restrictions and wind calculations, so please consider this in your designs - no heavy sculptures! Structural engineers and experts will be consulted in the Ideas Lab and beyond so no need to go into that level of detail yet.

Plans
