This free late-night art programme will transform the heart of the West End into a cosmic playground, blending surreal public art with the wonders of space science.
Headlined by the award-winning eco-feminist and experiential designer Nelly Ben Hayoun-Stépanian PhD, this year’s edition offers you the chance to journey through the universe without ever leaving the city.
What’s Coming to the West End
As part of this year’s programme, Art After Dark Piccadilly Un:Plugged by Nelly Ben Hayoun-Stépanian, founder of NASA’s International Space Orchestra, invites you to explore a series of unmissable installations and events that bring the universe to life in London’s West End.
Iridescent asteroid-sized moon rocks are set to land in Piccadilly Circus, while two towering inflatable UV reactive sculptures inspired by Schrödinger’s famous quantum physics paradox – nicknamed the ‘Cats’ – will be positioned close by...
Recordings made in the West End and the heartbeats of Nelly’s Armenian family will journey 768,800km to the moon and back. Using Earth-Moon-Earth (EME), these special recordings will be received by the University of Manchester’s Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank Observatory, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and will be broadcast in Piccadilly Circus, creating a unique astronomical soundscape.
Throughout the three-night spectacle, London will become a portal to explore the wonders of the night sky during ‘galaxy season’, a time when distant galaxies are at their most visible. Coinciding with International Women’s Day on 8 March 2025, Art After Dark spotlights female and non-binary musicians and innovators from leading astronomical organisations together.
Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare to launch this once-in-a-lifetime cosmic adventure.
