Marilyn Monroe: told and retold
Talk
Join professor and acclaimed author Sarah Churchwell to delve deeper into the story of Marilyn Monroe’s iconic and instantly recognisable image.
For many, before Marilyn is a person, she is already an image: platinum hair, parted lips, beauty mark, half-closed eyes, symbolising twentieth-century femininity. But what story is she telling?
This event forms part of a season of events, programmed in response to the Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait exhibition.
In celebration of the Hollywood star’s 100th birthday and in association with the Marilyn Monroe estate, Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait will explore the life, career and legacy of Marilyn Monroe through portraits created by some of the greatest photographers and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.
