The exhibition features selected images, many of which are being displayed for the first time.
These photographs explore both traditional and contemporary approaches to the portrait, capturing a rich spectrum of characters, moods, and settings.
The winners of this year's photography prizes are as follows:
First Prize: Alexandre Silberman's "Diena," a gelatin silver print from July 2022, part of the series "NATURE."
Second Prize: Gilleam Trapenberg's "Kisha and LaDarayon," an inkjet print from March 2023, part of the series "Currents."
Third Prize: Jake Green's "Shaun Ryder," an inkjet print from May 2023, and Carl Francois van der Linde's "Chotu Lal Upside-down," an inkjet print from February 2023, part of the series "Our Leader."
Additionally, Serena Brown's "me nana fie," a chromogenic print from March 2022, is featured in the Taylor Wessing Photographic Commission. Click here to read more about the artists.
If you miss the 2023 Exhibition, fret not; the 2024 edition is set to run from the 14th of November 2024 to the 23rd of February 2025. Whether you're an established professional or just starting in your photography career, submissions for the 2024 Prize will open in spring 2024.
The 2024 edition will feature the unveiling of a new work for the Gallery’s Collection, created by the 2023 commission prize winner, Serena Brown.
The competition celebrates a diverse range of images, from formal commissioned portraits to spontaneous and intimate moments capturing friends and family, all while revealing the fascinating stories behind their creations.
