Get creative at the Royal Academy of Arts

Entry to all exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts is free for under-16s, making it an affordable way to introduce children to some of the UK's biggest exhibitions.

Don't miss the Young Artists' Summer Show, where thousands of imaginative artworks by children and teenagers from across the UK are displayed. It's colourful, inspiring and a fantastic way to encourage budding young artists.

Take a trip to the theatre during kids week

A trip to the theatre becomes much more affordable during Kids Week, when children aged 17 and under can go free with a paying adult to participating West End shows, plus an additional two children can attend for half price. Many shows available have applied a reduced rate VAT on their ticket prices as part of the government’s ‘Great Summer of Savings’ campaign, meaning this year ticket savings are better than ever!

Kids Week performances will run from Monday 20 July – Monday 31 August and tickets are now on sale.

Discover Family Fun at the National Gallery

Head to the National Gallery this summer for Take One Picture, running until 31 August. This annual exhibition transforms a single painting into a springboard for creativity, with artwork created by schoolchildren from across the country.

While you're there, visit the Roden Centre for Creative Learning, where families can enjoy free activities, drop-in sessions and workshops designed to get children creating, exploring and engaging with art in fun, hands-on ways.

Enjoy family fun with the National Portrait Gallery

There's plenty happening at the National Portrait Gallery this summer. The Summer Family Festival runs from 3–7 August (11am–4pm), offering free creative activities, performances and interactive experiences for all ages.

Art lovers can also explore the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award 2026, on display until 7 October, showcasing some of the world's most impressive contemporary portraiture.

For photography fans, Through My Lens (until 20 September) offers a fascinating exhibition that encourages visitors to see the world from fresh perspectives through the power of photography.

Get your Doodle on with Mr Doodle’s Doodle Discovery

Get ready for a summer adventure full of giant characters, creativity and plenty of photo opportunities as Mr Doodle’s Doodle Discovery arrives in the West End from 28 July to 30 August.

Families can follow a free outdoor art trail through some of London’s most iconic streets, discovering giant Mr Doodle sculptures along the way. The playful route takes visitors through the heart of the West End, including areas around Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and St James’s Market, turning a family day out into a fun treasure hunt.

Known for his instantly recognisable black-and-white doodle style, Mr Doodle brings his imaginative world to life with artworks inspired by London’s culture, creativity and landmarks. It’s the perfect excuse to explore the West End with kids this summer – and it’s completely free.
