Art After Dark: 2023 Launch

Coming this March we're launching Art After Dark, a seasonal art and culture programme in 2023 with world-class art institutions across London’s West End, including the National Gallery and Royal Academy of Arts.

In 2023, the award-winning cultural initiative Art of London launched Art After Dark, a free art and culture programme across London’s West End. World-class institutions like the National Gallery and Royal Academy of Arts opened their doors late, alongside leading galleries keeping the city’s vibrant art scene alive after hours through a series of seasonal events.

The first edition took place on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th March, inviting a new generation of night owls and culture lovers to explore the West End’s art world alongside its top restaurants, bars, and theatres.

This unmissable programme allowed visitors to ‘hop’ from gallery to gallery throughout the evening. Independent and commercial galleries stayed open late on Thursdays, while iconic institutions such as the Royal Academy and National Gallery welcomed guests after dark on Fridays. Attendees experienced pioneering exhibitions that shook up the art scene, with galleries including 3812 Gallery, Stern Pissarro, and the National Portrait Gallery (reopening next year), with more participants announced earlier in 2023.

Art After Dark became the latest highlight in Art of London’s remarkable lineup of art attractions and programmes—delivered by Heart of London Business Alliance and supported by Mayfair Art Weekend and Westminster City Council. This followed other popular initiatives like the Augmented Gallery, the Piccadilly Art Takeover and Trail, the Take A Moment 2022 photography exhibition and the Brighter Future public art commission.

Culture seekers also enjoyed discovering spectacular arts destinations across the West End using Art of London’s handy online guides, showcasing world-class galleries, theatres, museums, institutions and pop-ups to explore.

Culture enthusiasts hopped from gallery to gallery throughout the evenings. On Thursdays, independent and commercial galleries kept their doors open late to welcome visitors, while on Fridays, iconic institutions, including the Royal Academy and the National Gallery — stayed open after dark.
