His art isn’t just beautiful – it’s deeply observant. With the eye of a scientist and the hand of an artist, he painted Mexico’s evolving scenery with incredible precision and heart.
You’ll see stunning works rarely shown outside Latin America, and discover how Velasco explored everything from ancient civilisations to industrial growth, from nature’s richness to the early signs of environmental change. His work opens a window into the complex story of Mexico – and invites you to reflect on your own relationship with place and progress.
Organised with the Minneapolis Institute of Art, this exhibition gives you a fresh perspective on 19th-century art, far beyond the borders of Europe. If you're curious about how artists respond to history, identity and the land itself, this is one not to miss.
