This summer, the Royal Academy brings together Vincent van Gogh and Anselm Kiefer in a powerful new exhibition that explores one artist’s lasting influence on the other.
In 1890, Van Gogh painted some of his most iconic (and final) works. Fast forward to 1962, and a teenage Kiefer follows in his footsteps, literally, travelling from the Netherlands to Arles in search of inspiration.
The result? A 60-year career shaped by Van Gogh’s passion, colour and fearless experimentation.
Kiefer / Van Gogh places the two side by side... think bold brushwork, mythic ideas and a shared obsession with nature, history and the human condition. You’ll also see brand-new work by Kiefer, shown for the first time.
A must-see for art lovers, thinkers and anyone who's ever felt moved by a Van Gogh sky.
