Emerging from the Glasgow School of Art in the early 1990s, Saville swiftly established herself at the forefront of the figurative painting revival—a genre she continues to challenge and redefine with uncompromising passion.

Her powerful portraits, crafted through thick, expressive layers of paint, reveal an artist profoundly engaged with the very act of creation.

This comprehensive, chronological exhibition presents a rich array of works—from delicate charcoal drawings to monumental oil paintings of the human form. It invites reflection on historical perceptions of female beauty, featuring the iconic nudes that first brought Saville critical acclaim in 1992, alongside compelling new works unveiled for the first time.

Bringing together 45 pieces drawn from public and private collections worldwide, The Anatomy of Painting traces the evolution of Saville’s practice and her profound dialogue with art history. Developed in close collaboration with the artist herself, this exhibition offers an intimate insight into the mind and mastery of a true visionary.
